Kennel Inn is pleased to introduce the PetLynx Automated Pet Recovery system. This system will help to increase pet recovery in our facility and the community by providing an automated lost and found service for pets.
What is PetLynx?
PetLynx is a pet recovery system that can return a lost pet back home with or without permanent identification When a microchip, tag or tattoo is not available, a simple physical description of the animal using the DataSketch details will allow for an automatic match in the system. The system searches lost and found reports posted within the community and Ontario. Advanced searches can be performed for North America.
How can PetLynx help find my lost pet?
Kennel inn is committed to increasing the recovery rate of lost pets. This is why we are introducing an automated recovery system in an effort to increase the recovery rate in our community. All pets that are found as a stray by Kennel Inn Animal Control will be posted on this system through the Found Report feature. This will give our community a unique advantage over traditional manually kept Lost and Found Reporting systems. It will give everyone one place to look for lost and found pets. All residents and businesses in the community can use this system to post a lost or found report. All owners are encouraged to visit the shelter frequently to search for their missing pet.
If you post a Lost Report on the system for your pet, it is your responsibilty to follow up with every potential match.
PetLynx provides your best chance to recover your pet and allows you to:

- Automatically receive emails of potential pet matches
- Easily update your profile
- Upload a picture of your pet
Why should I buy a registration kit, I just bought a Licence?
A Licence is a by-law requirement and a Lifetime Subscription to PetLynx is another tool to assist you in recovering your pet. Your information will already be in the system prior to your pet becoming lost, thus the recovery process is fast tracked. If your pet is lost without his tag he can still be recovered with a description of his physical appearance by the owner at anytime. You will receive automatic notification of potential matches when your pet is lost. We also report all strays in our shelter on the system as found.
When you have lost a pet we recommend that you:
- Visit our shelter frequently
- Post a FREE Lost Report on our Recovery System
- Print FREE Lost Posters from our Recovery System and post them with permission in area stores, Vet clinics and schools
- File a Lost Report with all neighbouring Animal Control Centres in the area where your pet was lost
- Check the local newspapers for Found Animal ads
- Post a Lost Animal ad in the local newspaper
- Place Lost Posters with neighbours asking them to check garages, sheds and under porches
- Update your Lost Report when you locate your pet outside of the shelter
Kennel Staff Will:
Make every effort to contact you when your pet is found and has permenant identification such as microchip, Licence or PetLynx ID.
Provide you with information to file a Lost Report.
Not conduct searches for your lost pet over the telephone. The public is encouraged to search for their lost pet by visiting the shelter frequently and using our automated Lost and Found Recovery system.
Scan and check all stray animals (alive or deceased) for a microchip, tattoo or idenification tag. Should identifcation be found Kennel staff will follow-up and contact the registered owner.
Claiming your pet from Kennel Inn
When your pet has been found in our shelter and you come to claim your pet you as the Animal Owner will need to:
- Show government identification with your current address
- Pay for any Impound and boarding fees for each day your pet is in the shelter. All fees must be paid at the time you claim your pet. As we do not have Interac or Credit Card facilities cash is required
- Bring the current Rabies Vaccination Certificate as proof that the Rabies vaccination is up to date
- Purchase a Dog or Cat (where applicable) Licence before a dog or cat is released from the shelter when it is not already licenced
- Have a collar, leash or carrier at the time you claim your pet
- Not touch any of the animals when searching the kennels. It is recommended that when possible young children stay in the Entrance area for their safety
